VIM AND VIGOR (EMMA GARCÍA)

Level:

For B2.2 students when we teach the topic of `Advertising and Emotions´

Objectives:

- Making predictions in oral conversations using their creativity and imagination.

- To learn the idiom ` Full of Vim and Vigor´

- To use modals of deduction/ Adjectives/ Narrative tenses, although grammar is not the main focus.

First, I tell my students about my reaction the first time I watched this ad and how much I liked it, and I still do (giving no clues at all about the product advertised).
Then, they see till 0:09´and they have to speak about what they think it´s gonna happen next ( making predictions or using narrative present tenses) (E.g. `The whole population becomes a baby because of an alien invasion´)

They see until 1:08´and talk about what product they might be advertising (Modal Verbs of Deduction). We play it again( till 1:08´) and they have to describe the feelings&emotions of the people in the ad (Intermediate-Level Adjectives, e.g. overjoyed/Compound Adjectives, e.g. happy-go-lucky )

Finally, they watch the end of the commercial and find out what product is advertised.
This is a short activity (about 15´) to finish the lesson on a funny note.
For homework, they can write a short text ( about 125 words) summarising the advertisement as a mediation activity `videotelling´ the ad in a written text starting with `I´ve seen an advert which......´
