THE LITTLE PRINCE (ALBERTO SANTOS)

THE LITTLE PRINCE

“Let me make you a present of a secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye”.
LEVEL: A1 (Grade 6)
AGE: 10-12
ORGANIZATION: whole class
AIMS:
1. To make children aware of the intuitive understanding of the important things in life.
2. To predict what happens in the story. 3. To draw and describe a picture.
5. To describe a character.
4. To write and read a postcard.

LANGUAGE FOCUS: present simple, adjectives to describe people and places.
MATERIALS: a video of an advert and a piece of paper with a quote from the book “The Little Prince”.
PROCEDURE:

1. Show the children the video and ask them what they think is the moral.

2. Give the children a piece of paper with the quote from the book and ask them what they think the phrase “see with the heart” means? Can someone “see” with his or her heart? Why or why not? Do you agree or disagree with this point of view?

3. Use the quote from the book to teach some important vocabulary in the story if necessary.

4. Make a Postcard: The little prince visits several planets and meets a different character on each one. Imagine that you are a traveler visiting those planets. Choose one planet and send a postcard from it. Draw a picture of the place on one side and write your message on the other. In your message, identify the character you meet, what he is like, what he represents, and your opinion of the person and place.

5. Ask the children to describe their pictures and read the postcard to their classmates.
