The level of this activity is A2 and it is mainly intended for students in 5th grade of a British Council school (or any other elementary school with a high level of English).

The objective is to complete a story based on some given items or "seeds". Students will practice comprehension using mainly listening and speaking skills as a whole group.

To start the activity, the teacher provides students with the following words (they can be projected on a power point on the digital white board to save paper):

-A huge line
 -A spacious corner store
-September 2020 after a pandemic
 -A four-year-old boy
-A nearby town

Students ask the teacher yes/no questions to predict the story. For example, ‘was the spacious corner store in a nearby town?’ or ‘did the story happened to a four-year-old boy?’

Once students have activated some background story schemata, the teacher shows several pieces of information to complete a gapped text read by the teacher aloud. These are the pieces of information:

 -Go to kindergarten
 -one side
-using hand sanitizer
 -the smallest store
-in front of the counter
-in their late-thirties
 -some candy
-survived a terrible pandemic

The teacher then reads the whole text and waits for students saying their answers aloud, which are already included in the text below:

‘It was September 2020. The school had already started after the whole world survived a terrible pandemic. The consequences of the pandemic were visible: people wearing face masks and using hand sanitizer all the time. The school, the supermarket and even the smallest store of a nearby town had put signals to keep the social distance. One day, a four-year-old boy decided to go to the corner store of his neighborhood. He wanted to buy some candy. There was a huge line waiting in front of the counter. All the people there, with the exception of a girl, were adults in their late-thirties. The incredible thing was that the spacious corner store had a lot of social-distance signals lying on the floor, but all the adults were packed on one side of the store. The boy thought that adults should go to kindergarten again’.
