IMAGES-STORY SEEDING (RICARDO ROMÁN)

Level: This activity is addressed to B2.1 students aged 16-17.

Objective: The objective is to develop students´ narrative skills.

Activities:

- I would start the activity by showing students the picture and then ask them to suggest words that come to their minds after seeing the image, as a kind of brainstorming activity. The teacher would write all the words suggested by students on the board/screen.

- Next, I would ask them to build sentences that could fit the picture with the words suggested ( I would write the suggestions on the board as well).

- Then I would ask ´wh-´ questions in order to establish a time-line in which the action takes place, such as ´who are the people involved?´ ´ Where does the image take place?´ ´Why is the image taking place?´´What is happening in the image?´What happened before the picture was taken?´ ´How did they get to the situation that the picture shows?´...

-Finally, I would ask students to try and write a story using the information that has been suggested. This can be done either as a written exercise or an oral one.

The teacher would help out with time linkers in order to organize the stories proposed by students.
