ANIMAL TROUBLE (EVA ROJO)

Level: 1st year of ESO

Objective: how to describe a picture

Activities:

  • .       Story seeding from the teacher:

two dogs

washing machine

The teacher writes that information on the board and tries to elicit what the activity is going to be about. For intance by asking, what do you think they are doing?  and other concept questions if the students do not come out with ideas: Are they cooking? Are they studying? Are they playing? Are they washing? Are they happy?  Are they sad? Students give oral answers

The teacher gives a description of the picture (story adapted to their language competence):

"In this picture there are two dogs and a washing machine.  The two dogs are looking at the same place.  One is wet. The other is dry. The one outside the washing machine is staring at us..."

e.g. Wow! he/she____________

  • Now, the teacher shows the picture and asks more questions: Why is the dog staring at us? What do you think he is thinking? What do you think he would say? Students give answers.

We _____________

  • 1.       Students as story tellers: students choose a funny animal picture from internet, describe it and add possible animal’s comments or thoughts

Modelling from teacher’s description:

In this picture there is/are ___________

It is ____(adjective)___________

It is ______(verb with -ing)_________

Picture, description and bubble to be sent to teacher using Microsoft Teams

Students share their work with peers in a future session

Note: This is a very simple activity that I am going to put into practice pretty soon. I haven’t put my grammar googles, but grammar itself has just come out. Right time for there is/are and present continuous with my first years.
