HANDA'S SURPRISE (SILVIA VALENCIAGA)

 


LEVEL: 1st Primary
OBJECTIVE: To create simple stories, adapt stories to different scenarios, use key words from the lesson and compare with the original story.
TECHNIQUE: Constructing stories from images.

ACTIVITY: this is a preactivity before working Handa’s Surprise Book.


Students are learning about living things in Natural Science and English.


The idea of the activity is to create a story using an animal and a plant that apear at random. There are two images that always appear in the story, Handa and basket. Every day different students create a story and we review words and english structures. Every three days we change the landscape of the story and they could change the story too. Once they have seen all animals and plants and use them through different stories, it is time for listening the original story of Handa. Then, we could compare the original story with the stories invented by them. They will really enjoy and feel well-motivated.

STORY SEEDING : WILL BE THE STARTING POING OF THIS ACTIVITY After talking about Halloween history and traditions, I remembered a video I watched on the Internet that was really funny. So, I have prepared the following activities based on that video for my English classroom. THERE WAS A PROBLEM… I will tell the children that the day before I watched a video that I really loved. I will show them a poster with different words to encourage children to start speaking. (I can't paste the poster, but it is Halloween theme with the title and four words related to the video: baby boy, halloween, tradition, mummy, problem) If will guide my students with questions, so that they can start talking and make predictions on the story . For example What Halloween tradition could it be?

THE SOLDIER AND THE DONKEY (DANIEL MARTÍN)

  This photo shows a group of soldiers marching on a field. One soldier is carrying a baby donkey on his back. I first saw this photo on Facebook. There are two versions to the story .
