Language level: Intermediate (B1) Time: 60 minutes Objectives: listening skills, predicting the end of a story, and speaking skills. Topic: Daily routines, work and school Language: Alike, adjectives to describe character and routines

Materials: Short film

Activities stages:

Step 1

Explanation:
The teacher writes the following sentences on the board.
I’m like my brother.
• My brother and I are alike.
The teacher elicits the two sentences mean the same thing and gives them an explanation. The teacher gives more examples and asks them to write a true sentence about themselves and a member of their family using alike.

Step 2


Students watch a short film titled Alike in which they see a father and his son. As they watch they should notice in what ways the father and son, and their lives are alike. The teacher shows the film until 04:55.


Step 3


The teacher holds a whole class discussion on how the father and son, and their lives are alike.
The teacher can ask students some questions. For example: What problem does the film illustrate?
Step 4

Students, in small groups, have to predict the rest of the story.


Step 5


The teacher shows the rest of the film.
Step 6


The teacher holds a whole class discussion based on the topic of the film. The teacher can ask some questions in order to begin the discussion.


How does the film make you feel?
• What’s the film’s message?
• Does the film reflect society?
